Smaller (and lower-back friendlier) alternatives might be a Prophet-600 or Juno-60. They're probably the most reliable of the old Oberheims and they're certainly HUGE (in more ways than one). If you're a risk taker, then I'd second djugel's suggestion of an OB-8. Of those three, I'd consider the Juno-60 the most reliable, the P-600 the most raw, and the OB-8 the most versatile. All would need to have been recently serviced, of course.
But it inspires confidence when you're standing (or sitting) behind the keyboard. Not the hugest, phattest most awesome sounding synth ever. So if it were me, I'd be looking at a Prophet-08 PE. But those demos can be deceiving, so i need some suggestions. From what i have heard, I really like the power and depth of the old korg stuff, but honestly its hard to tell without playing one myself. All the demos on youtube make them look awesome.
